Gilbert Umberger
Term: 2016-19

Gilbert R. Umberger, II from Graham, NC, is the Coordinator of Student Activities at Durham Technical Community College. He attended Durham Technical Community College as a college transfer student and transferred to Appalachian State University, receiving a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Hospitality Management. He was employed as an assistant general manager and later as a general manager with Hampton Inn. Gilbert earned his Masters Degree in Education from Western Carolina University.

 Prior to working at Durham Tech, Gilbert worked at Stanly Community College as the Coordinator of Student Support Services. While at SCC, Gilbert became involved with the PBL chapter. He has presented workshops on leadership topics at state and national PBL conferences. He has also served as a judge for competitive events and became a member of the Professional Division-Foundation.

Leadership is one of Gilbert’s many passions. He has served as a facilitator for the North Carolina Community College System Student Leadership Institute (now Student Leadership Development Program) for the last thirteen years and he is currently serving as an advisor to the North Carolina Comprehensive Community College Student Government Association (N4CSGA) Executive Board.
